Diploma courses in Dubai run from 3-month vocational diplomas to 2-year Higher National Diplomas (HNDs) and 1-year postgraduate diplomas. The useful questions are what level the diploma is, who awards it, whether the provider is licensed, and whether it leads to a job or to further study such as a degree top-up.
This hub explains the main diploma types (Level 3 to 7, HND, BTEC, City & Guilds and KHDA-permitted certificates), typical durations such as 6 months and 1 year, how to treat job-guarantee claims, and where to find diplomas in each subject. Each topic page lists verified providers.
- Typical durations
- 3 months to 2 years; postgraduate diplomas usually 1 year
- HND
- Pearson Level 4 and 5, 240 credits, about 2 years
- Reported HND fee
- GBS Dubai: AED 40,000 per year (provider site, Oct 2026)
- Who licenses providers
- KHDA for private training institutes in Dubai; MoHESR/CAA for higher education
- Common awarding bodies
- Pearson (BTEC, HND), City & Guilds, NCFE CACHE, IATA, ACCA, CIPD
- Key caution
- Diplomas are not degrees; check how employers and equivalency treat them
Types of diploma courses in Dubai
The word "diploma" covers very different qualifications. The level number, where given, is the best guide. Most UK-awarded diplomas sold in Dubai use the UK Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) levels.
| Type | Level | Typical length | Example in Dubai | Leads to |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Vocational diploma (BTEC, City & Guilds, CACHE) | Level 2 to 3 | 3 months to 1 year | City & Guilds Level 2 culinary diplomas at ICCA; NCFE CACHE Level 3 early years at Arabian Child | Skilled entry-level jobs |
| Foundation diploma | Level 3 | About 1 year | University foundation programmes | Bachelor's degree entry |
| HNC / HND (Pearson BTEC Higher Nationals) | Level 4 / 5 | 1 year / 2 years | HND International in Business at GBS Dubai | Supervisor roles or a degree top-up |
| Applied diploma (government college) | Level 4 | 2 years | Dubai College of Tourism Diploma in Hospitality for Emiratis | Hotel operations roles |
| Professional body diploma | Level 3 to 7 | Months to 2 years | ACCA, CIPD, IATA diplomas | Professional membership and roles |

HND and BTEC courses in Dubai
HND courses in Dubai are Pearson BTEC Higher National Diplomas, usually two years. GBS Dubai in Dubai Knowledge Park, for example, offers an HND International in Business combining Level 4 and Level 5 units for 240 credits, with weekday, evening and weekend options, at AED 40,000 per year (provider site, October 2026). It describes progression to Level 6 at partner campuses for a UK bachelor's degree.
When comparing Pearson BTEC courses in Dubai:
- Ask whether the centre is approved by Pearson for that specific programme, not just for BTEC in general.
- Ask for written details of the top-up route: which university, where, and at what fee.
- Confirm the centre's KHDA permit is valid for the HND programme.
BTEC Nationals (Level 3) are also taught in some Dubai schools as an alternative to A levels for students who finished Grade 10 or Year 11. Families looking at diploma courses after 10th or 12th should first compare these school options and foundation programmes, then check university entry requirements.

Some universities let you convert postgraduate diploma credits into a master's. For full master's options, see MBA in Dubai and universities in Dubai.
Job-guarantee claims: how to treat them
Some diploma adverts in Dubai promise a "guaranteed job" or "100% placement". Treat these claims with care:
- In Dubai, KHDA requires training institutes to get approval for advertising, and content must comply with its Advertising and Marketing Materials Guide.
- MoHESR reviewed more than 2,500 education adverts from 118 institutions between June and September 2025 and stopped 20 non-compliant ones, according to Gulf News.
- "Placement" often means an internship or a referral, not a paid job.
Evening, weekend and women-only options
Many Dubai providers run diplomas in evening or weekend batches for working adults. GBS Dubai advertises evening and weekend options for its HND, and the University of Birmingham Dubai PGCEi uses weekly evening classes and monthly Saturday sessions. Courses for ladies and women-only batches are advertised by some private institutes; we could not verify a current list, so ask the provider directly and confirm the batch exists before paying a deposit.
How to choose a diploma in Dubai
- Find the level. Ask for the RQF or equivalent level and the credit value.
- Check the awarding body. Pearson, City & Guilds, NCFE CACHE, a university, or a professional body. Confirm the centre's approval with the awarding body.
- Check the licence. Private training institutes in Dubai need a KHDA permit; higher education needs MoHESR/CAA or a KHDA-permitted branch campus.
- Know the next step. Is there a written top-up route to a degree, or recognised professional membership?
- Get the total cost. Registration, awarding-body and exam fees, materials and VAT.
- Visa status. If you need a student visa, ask whether the provider can sponsor one for this programme. See UAE student visa.
Questions and answers
What is the best diploma course in Dubai?
There is no official ranking. The best diploma is one at the right level, from a recognised awarding body, delivered by a KHDA-permitted or MoHESR-licensed provider, in a subject with jobs you want.
How long is an HND in Dubai?
Usually two years. GBS Dubai's Pearson HND International in Business is 240 credits over two years, with evening and weekend options.
Is an HND equal to a degree?
No. An HND is a Level 5 qualification. Many providers offer a Level 6 top-up year to reach a bachelor's degree.
Are there 6 month diploma courses in Dubai?
Yes, mostly vocational diplomas such as culinary or early years qualifications. Check the level and awarding body, since a 6-month diploma is usually Level 2 to 4.
Can I do a diploma after 10th or 12th in Dubai?
Yes. After Grade 10 students can look at BTEC Nationals in schools, and after Grade 12 at foundation programmes, HNDs or vocational diplomas. Check university entry rules if you plan to progress.
Do diploma courses in Dubai guarantee a job?
Treat any guarantee with caution. Ask for written terms, including what happens if no job follows. KHDA and MoHESR both regulate education advertising.
Do diploma courses give a student visa?
Only some. Ask whether the provider can sponsor a student visa for that specific programme before you pay.
