Which health and safety course do you need?
| Course | Best for | Typical length |
|---|---|---|
| NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) | Safety officers, supervisors, career starters in HSE | About 10 days of tuition plus two assessments |
| NEBOSH International Diploma | HSE managers and senior advisers | Three units; Dubai evening batches of about 28 days per unit |
| IOSH Managing Safely | Line managers in any sector | Short course; confirm hours with the provider |
| IOSH Working Safely | All staff, induction level | Short course; confirm hours with the provider |
| OSHA 30-hour outreach | Construction and general industry staff on US-linked projects | 30 hours |
| NEBOSH Fire Safety and Environmental certificates | Fire and environmental specialists | Two units each |

If you want an HSE career, the NEBOSH IGC is NEBOSH's certificate-level qualification for people starting in safety roles. If you manage a team outside safety, IOSH Managing Safely is usually enough.
NEBOSH courses in Dubai and official fees
NEBOSH does not train learners itself. It sets the syllabus and assessments, and approved Learning Partners deliver the teaching. NEBOSH's learner fees list (version 21, from 1 April 2026) sets these assessment charges in pounds sterling:
| NEBOSH qualification | Official NEBOSH fee |
|---|---|
| International General Certificate (IG1/GIC1, IG2/GIC2) | £95 per unit (NEBOSH fees list, Apr 2026) |
| International Diploma (2020 and 2023 specs) | £165 assessment registration; £75 enrolment (NEBOSH fees list, Apr 2026) |
| Environmental Certificate (EMC1, EMC2) | £95 per unit (NEBOSH fees list, Apr 2026) |
| Certificate in Fire Safety (FSC1, FSC2) | £95 per unit (NEBOSH fees list, Apr 2026) |
| Health and Safety at Work Award | £75 (NEBOSH fees list, Apr 2026) |
| HSE Award in Managing Risks and Risk Assessment at Work | £64 (NEBOSH fees list, Apr 2026) |
NEBOSH notes that some Learning Partners include these fees in their course price. RRC International, for example, lists its online IGC at £399 plus VAT plus a separate £190 NEBOSH fee (RRC site, Oct 2026). When comparing Dubai quotes, ask whether NEBOSH fees, resit fees and VAT are included.

Fire safety, fire alarm and fire fighting courses
In Dubai, fire safety training providers need Dubai Civil Defence approval. According to Meydan Free Zone's 2026 guide, DCD sets curriculum standards, trainer qualifications and facility requirements, and course types include fire warden training, first responder courses, fire extinguisher handling and fire risk awareness. Fire Safety Level 2 (Fire Warden) courses build on a Level 1 certificate.
Fire alarm courses split into two groups: awareness for wardens and building staff, and technical design and installation training for engineers and technicians. Technical fire fighting design courses (sprinklers, pumps, hydrants) are covered under MEP training in engineering courses in Dubai. The NEBOSH Certificate in Fire Safety (£95 per unit; NEBOSH fees list, Apr 2026) suits people who manage fire risk.
First aid, food safety and electrical safety training
Food safety: Dubai Municipality requires every food establishment to appoint a Person in Charge (PIC) who has completed training and holds a food safety certificate. Dubai Municipality reported more than 72,000 PICs in 2020. SGS states that its PIC course is accredited by Dubai Municipality, lasts two days, and leads to a certificate valid for five years; certificates are issued by awarding bodies approved by Dubai Municipality. Hospitality students should also see hospitality courses in Dubai.
First aid: workplace first aid, CPR and AED courses are usually one day. Ask which body issues the certificate and how long it stays valid before a refresher is needed.
Electrical safety: electrical safety training covers safe isolation, lock-out/tag-out and arc flash awareness. It is not a licence to carry out electrical work.
Safety courses in Dubai: fees to expect
Most Dubai HSE providers do not publish AED prices, so the most reliable fixed figures are the awarding body fees above. A full quote for a NEBOSH IGC combines the provider's tuition, the NEBOSH fees (£190 for both units; NEBOSH fees list, Apr 2026), VAT and any resit charge. For IOSH courses, IOSH's 2026 to 2027 awarding organisation fee statement covers only its Level 3 and Level 6 qualifications, so ask the provider for the Managing Safely certificate fee. Short first aid, fire warden and PIC courses are commonly quoted per person or per group for employers.
How to choose a health and safety course in Dubai
- Pick the right level: IOSH Working Safely or first aid for all staff, IOSH Managing Safely for managers, NEBOSH IGC for safety officers, NEBOSH Diploma for HSE managers.
- Verify accreditation: check the provider on the awarding body's site (NEBOSH, IOSH) and KHDA for Dubai classroom centres.
- Check local approvals: Dubai Civil Defence for fire courses, Dubai Municipality for PIC.
- Get a full quote: tuition, awarding body fees, VAT, resit fees, study materials.
- Check the timetable: evening and online batches suit people working shifts on site.
- Ask about pass rates and tutor support for the open-book assessment.
