Engineering Courses in Dubai: Degrees, Software and Technical Training

Engineering courses in Dubai fall into two very different groups: accredited engineering degrees from universities (three to four years for a bachelor's, one to two for a master's) and short technical training of 3 to 5 days or 24 to 35 hours in software such as AutoCAD, Revit/BIM, STAAD Pro and ETABS, or in HVAC, MEP, instrumentation, maintenance and root cause analysis. The first gives you a qualification to work as an engineer; the second adds a skill on top of one.

This guide explains which route fits which goal, lists real providers with the fees they publish, and covers how engineers are registered in Dubai under the 2025 consultancy law. Prices change often, so treat every figure as a starting point and confirm it with the provider.

Bachelor's degree length
4 years (e.g. AUD BS programmes, 137 credit hours)
Short technical courses
24 to 35 hours (software) or 5 days (corporate seminars)

Engineering degree or short training: which do you need?

If you do not yet hold an engineering degree, short courses will not make you an engineer. Employers and the Dubai Municipality registry look for a recognised bachelor's degree in electrical, mechanical, civil or another engineering discipline. Short courses are for people who already work in the field, or graduates who need a specific tool for a job advert.

  • Degree route: for school leavers, career changers with no engineering background, or anyone who needs a qualification that can be attested and registered.
  • Diploma or HND route: for technicians and supervisors, for example HND courses in construction. See diploma courses in Dubai for how diplomas are licensed.
  • Short technical training: for practising engineers and draughtspeople who need AutoCAD, Revit, STAAD Pro, ETABS, Primavera or HVAC design skills, often in evening or weekend batches.
  • Corporate seminars: 5-day courses in reliability, RCA, instrumentation or corrosion, usually paid for by an employer.

Engineering universities in Dubai and the UAE

Several universities teach engineering in the UAE. The table below lists examples with details confirmed on their own pages. For a full comparison, see universities in Dubai and best universities in UAE.

ABET accreditation matters if you may work in the US or with US-linked firms. UK degrees accredited by an institution such as IMechE on behalf of the Engineering Council count towards UK Chartered Engineer status. Neither replaces UAE recognition: check that the programme is licensed by MOHESR or, for Dubai free-zone branches, KHDA.

AutoCAD, Revit/BIM, STAAD Pro, ETABS and Primavera courses

Software courses are the most searched technical courses in Dubai. Most run as live online or small classroom batches of 24 to 35 hours.

  • AutoCAD and Civil 3D: 2D drafting and civil design; useful for draughtspeople and site engineers.
  • Revit and BIM: Revit Architecture, Structure and MEP, often with Navisworks for clash detection. Many Dubai consultants ask for BIM experience.
  • STAAD Pro and ETABS: structural analysis and design for civil and structural engineers.
  • Primavera P6: planning and scheduling for construction projects. If you are moving into planning, also read project management courses in Dubai.

Edoxi, a training institute near Burjuman Metro (Khalid Bin Al Waleed Road), lists Revit courses of 35 hours each and STAAD Pro and HVAC design courses of 24 hours, plus ETABS, BIM, AutoCAD MEP, AutoCAD Electrical, Civil 3D and Primavera P6. Its pages do not publish fees, so request a written quote.

Ask whether the certificate is issued by the software vendor (for example an Autodesk certification exam) or only by the institute. Vendor exams are separate and may cost extra.

HVAC, MEP and electrical engineering training

HVAC and MEP courses suit mechanical and electrical engineers working for contractors and consultants in the Gulf, where cooling loads drive building design. A typical HVAC design syllabus, as listed by Edoxi for its 24-hour course, covers the refrigeration cycle and psychrometrics, DX, chilled water and VRV systems, heat load calculation, ventilation to ASHRAE 62.1, smoke management, duct design, and software such as HAP.

Related MEP options include electrical design, plumbing and drainage design, and fire fighting design. Electrical engineering training courses for practising engineers often cover design calculations and software rather than licensing. If your goal is to sign off electrical work, check what the relevant authority (for example DEWA in Dubai) requires; a short course certificate is not a licence.

Instrumentation, process control, maintenance and RCA courses

Plant engineers in oil and gas, utilities and manufacturing usually take 5-day seminars run by corporate training companies in Dubai hotels or online. Examples confirmed for 2026:

ProviderCourse exampleFormatPublished fee
EuroMaTech (Dubai Media City office; KHDA-approved training institute per its site)Root Cause Analysis, 5 days, 16 to 20 Nov 2026Classroom Dubai or live onlineUS $5,950 classroom; US $4,950 online (EuroMaTech site, Oct 2026)
EuroMaTechExcellence in Maintenance and Reliability Management, 5 days, 23 to 27 Nov 2026Classroom Dubai or live onlineUS $5,950 classroom (EuroMaTech site, Oct 2026)
GLOMACS (lists KHDA as an endorsing body)Categories for Maintenance Management, Instrumentation and Process Control, Corrosion, Metallurgy and Inspection, and RCAClassroom Dubai or onlineUS $5,950 for its 5-day Dubai classroom courses (GLOMACS site, Oct 2026)

These courses carry continuing professional education (CPE) credits, not a formal qualification. They are valuable for promotion and for audits, less so for a job change.

Civil, construction management, architecture and urban planning

Civil and construction courses range from degree programmes (AUD's BS Civil Engineering, for example) to HND courses in construction and short construction management training. Construction management courses typically combine planning (Primavera), contracts and site safety; for safety qualifications such as NEBOSH, see health and safety courses in Dubai.

Architecture and urban planning are mainly taught at degree and master's level. Short urban planning and urban development training is uncommon in public calendars; check university executive education units. For design software used by architects, see design courses in Dubai.

ISO courses (ISO 9001 quality, ISO 45001 safety, ISO 14001 environment) are popular with engineers in QA/QC roles. Lead auditor courses should be certified by a recognised scheme; ask which body certifies the course before paying.

Engineer registration in Dubai

Dubai Law No. 14 of 2025 regulates engineering consultancy activities. As reported by Khaleej Times in October 2025, consultancy offices must be licensed and registered with Dubai Municipality, which runs a unified electronic registry and issues professional competency certificates for technical staff. Offices may not employ unregistered engineers, and fines reach AED 100,000 (Khaleej Times report, Oct 2026). The law takes effect six months after publication, with one year for offices and staff to regularise.

Registration depends on your degree and experience, not on short courses. Have your degree attested and, if it is foreign, check equivalency before you apply for roles that need registration. The UAE Society of Engineers is notified of disciplinary action under the law; confirm any membership requirement directly with it, as this guide could not verify current membership rules.

How to choose an engineering course in Dubai

  1. Define the outcome: a degree, a job-ready software skill, or CPE for your current role.
  2. Check the licence: universities should be MOHESR accredited or KHDA licensed; Dubai training institutes should hold a KHDA permit. Verify on the regulator's site rather than relying on a logo.
  3. Check the certificate: vendor certification (Autodesk, Oracle Primavera) or institute certificate only.
  4. Compare total cost: course fee, software licence for practice, vendor exam fee and VAT. 5-day seminars are often quoted in US dollars.
  5. Check timing: evening and weekend batches suit working engineers; corporate seminars run Monday to Friday.
  6. Ask for the syllabus and trainer CV and look for real project exercises.
