This page explains each route (foundation, bachelor's, master's, PhD), the admission requirements universities publish, sample 2026 fees, and how to check that a degree is recognised. Requirements below are taken from university pages checked in October 2026.

Foundation courses in Dubai

A foundation programme covers English, maths and subject basics so you can enter Year 1. Universities that offer foundation year in UAE include Heriot-Watt University Dubai and Gulf Medical University (for health programmes). Published examples:

Ask whether passing the foundation guarantees a place on your chosen degree, and what grade you need. Heriot-Watt's ADEP, for example, requires at least a C (50%) in each course.

Admission requirements for bachelor's degrees

Since EmSAT was cancelled as a Grade 12 requirement in November 2024, each university sets its own criteria. Typical requirements:

  • School grades by curriculum. UAE University asks for 90% for medicine, engineering, computing and science, and 85% for business, humanities, education and law. Khalifa University asks for 80% (MOE Advanced/Elite), 80% (American) or 75% (CBSE) in maths and two sciences.
  • English: UAE University accepts IELTS Academic 5.5 or TOEFL iBT 70 (Duolingo and IELTS Indicator are not accepted); Khalifa asks for IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL iBT 79.
  • Maths or subject tests for some programmes (SAT Math, AP, A level, IB, or the university's own tests).
  • Equivalency: students from private schools need certificates for the last three years of study, and American-curriculum students may need SAT and TOEFL, according to the November 2024 ministry decision.

See EMSAT exam status for details of what changed.

BBA courses in Dubai

The Bachelor of Business Administration is one of the most common degrees in Dubai. Examples from university pages:

  • Heriot-Watt University Dubai: BBA, reachable directly or through its foundation or ADEP programmes.
  • UAE University College of Business and Economics: 85% minimum school average.
  • When comparing BBAs, look at modules (finance, marketing, analytics), internship options and whether the degree is the same as the home campus award.

For a broader list of universities in Dubai for BBA, see universities in Dubai and best universities in UAE.

Study law in UAE

Two very different law degrees are available:

  • UK qualifying law degrees (LLB) at Dubai branch campuses. Middlesex University Dubai offers three-year LLB programmes, including Law with International Relations (listed at AED 64,557 a year on Bachelorsportal, October 2026) and Law with Criminology. Its listing states these are recognised by the Solicitors Regulation Authority and the Bar Standards Board for the first stage of training in England and Wales.
  • UAE law degrees taught at UAE universities, such as UAE University's College of Law (85% minimum average). These focus on UAE law, and the language of instruction can be Arabic, so check before applying.
A UK LLB does not by itself qualify you to practise as a lawyer in UAE onshore courts, which have their own licensing rules. If you want to practise in the UAE, ask the university and the relevant emirate's legal affairs department which degree they accept. Short law courses in Dubai are professional development, not a law degree.

Postgraduate courses in Dubai: master's and PhD

Master's programmes in Dubai are commonly one year full-time or about two years part-time; Middlesex Dubai, for example, runs its MBA either way. Ask whether classes run in the evenings if you work. For business, see MBA in Dubai.

For PhD courses in Dubai and the UAE, federal research universities offer funded places: Khalifa University's PhD scholarships include tuition, a stipend, accommodation and insurance, and UAE University offers research and teaching assistantships open to all nationalities. See UAE scholarships.

Online degree courses in Dubai

Online degrees from overseas universities are widely advertised. Recognition in the UAE for online study is stricter than for campus study, so before enrolling check: whether the university and programme are accredited in their home country; whether the UAE ministry will grant equivalency for that delivery mode; and whether your employer or licensing body accepts it. See online and free courses for non-degree options.

How to choose an undergraduate course in Dubai

  1. Licence: confirm the campus is licensed by KHDA (Dubai free zones; 40 universities listed in its directory in October 2026) or by MOHESR/CAA.
  2. Same degree: ask whether the certificate is identical to the home campus.
  3. Entry route: direct entry or foundation; how many years in total.
  4. Total cost: tuition for every year, plus visa (for example AED 7,140 new, including a refundable AED 3,000 deposit, and AED 3,730 renewal at Curtin Dubai; Curtin visa policy, July 2026) and living costs.
  5. Career fit: professional accreditation for accounting, engineering, psychology or law if you need it.
  6. Scholarships: merit awards are often decided at admission.
