Accounting courses in Dubai fall into three groups: global professional qualifications (ACCA, CMA, CPA, CIMA), shorter certificates such as IFRS, internal audit and UAE VAT or corporate tax, and accounting degrees at universities in Dubai Knowledge Park and Academic City. The qualification you choose matters more than the institute, because the awarding body sets the syllabus, the exams and most of the fees.
This guide compares the main certifications using fees published by the awarding bodies, explains how UAE tax training and the Federal Tax Authority's tax agent rules fit in, and lists a few verified providers. Training fees vary a lot between institutes, so budget separately for tuition and exam fees.
- Main certifications
- ACCA, US CMA, US CPA, CIMA, ACCA DipIFR
- Who sets exam fees
- The awarding body (ACCA, IMA, NASBA/state boards, CIMA), not the Dubai institute
- CPA testing in UAE

- US CMA exam fee

- Who licenses Dubai training institutes

ACCA, CMA, CPA or CIMA: which suits you
- ACCA suits people who want a broad financial accounting, audit and reporting route recognised across the UK, Middle East and Asia. Many Dubai degrees carry ACCA exemptions, which cut the number of exams.
- US CMA is the shortest of the four: two parts covering management accounting, budgeting, cost control and decision analysis. It fits people heading for FP&A, cost accounting or finance manager roles.
- US CPA leads to a US licence and is strongest for audit and US GAAP work, including Big Four audit teams serving US-linked clients. You must meet a US state board's education rules, which can need credit evaluation of a non-US degree.
- CIMA is a management accounting route that awards the CGMA designation. It suits people in corporate finance roles who want a UK-based body with a business focus.
If your work is IFRS reporting rather than a full career switch, a single certificate such as ACCA DipIFR is often enough. Budgeting and cost accounting courses usually map to CMA or CIMA content.
UAE VAT and corporate tax courses
VAT has applied in the UAE since 2018 and federal corporate tax since 2023, so tax courses are one of the most requested short accounting courses in Dubai. Most are 1 to 5 day workshops on VAT returns, corporate tax registration, transfer pricing basics and FTA penalties. They give a certificate of completion, not a licence.
To act for clients before the Federal Tax Authority you must register as a tax agent. The FTA lists these requirements:
- A bachelor's or master's degree in tax, accounting or law, or an internationally recognised tax certification if your degree is in another field
- At least three years of recent experience in tax, accounting or law
- A VAT or corporate tax diploma, IELTS or TOEFL if you choose English, and the FTA's Arabic exam results if requested
- Good conduct certificate and professional indemnity cover
- Registration fee of AED 3,000 for an individual, paid after approval (FTA service page, October 2026); check the FTA's renewal page for renewal terms
For UAE nationals, the FTA's UAE Tax Agent Programme runs a 6-day VAT diploma and an 11-day corporate tax diploma with the fees covered by the government. Khaleej Times reported the target of training 500 Emirati tax agents over three years from January 2026.
Internal audit, fraud and IFRS training
Internal audit, financial audit and fraud courses in Dubai are usually short corporate workshops. The main long-form certification for internal auditors is the Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) from the Institute of Internal Auditors. For external audit, ACCA and CPA cover auditing in depth.
The Emirates Institute of Finance, the UAE banking sector's training institute, lists internal audit and fraud management among its certifications, delivered in Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi. For fraud with an anti-money laundering angle, see AML and compliance courses in Dubai.
IFRS courses range from one-day updates on new standards to the ACCA DipIFR exam, which is useful for accountants trained under local GAAP elsewhere who now report under IFRS in the UAE.

How to choose the best institute for accounting courses in Dubai
- Check the licence. A training institute in mainland Dubai or a Dubai free zone should hold a KHDA permit. Ask for it and confirm on KHDA's site.
- Check partner status with the awarding body. ACCA, IMA and AICPA and CIMA publish their approved tuition providers. A provider that is not listed can still teach, but you lose that quality check.
- Add up the total cost. Tuition plus registration, annual subscriptions, exam fees per paper and any retakes. Ask whether study materials and mock exams are included.
- Look at timing. Most working adults in Dubai need weekday evenings or weekend classes. Ask how many contact hours each paper gets.
- Ask for pass-rate evidence carefully. Only trust pass rates that the provider can show against the body's published global pass rates for the same session.
- Confirm the exam venue. ACCA, CMA and CPA exams are computer based at approved centres; check where the nearest centre is and how far ahead you must book.
Short-term and basic accounting courses
If you need bookkeeping skills for a job or small business, a basic accounting course covering double entry, financial statements and accounting software is enough. These run from a few days to a few weeks. They do not lead to a professional title, so check that the certificate is from a KHDA-permitted institute if an employer will see it. For spreadsheet skills that accountants use daily, see Excel and data analytics courses, and for broader programmes see diploma courses in Dubai.
Finance and accounting courses together
Many people searching for finance and accounting training courses in Dubai want treasury, budgeting or corporate finance skills rather than an accounting title. Those are covered in finance courses in Dubai, which also compares CFA, FRM and banking certifications. For a management route, an MBA with a finance concentration is in MBA courses in Dubai.
Questions and answers
Which accounting course is best in Dubai?
There is no single best course. ACCA suits broad financial accounting and audit careers, US CMA suits management accounting roles, and US CPA suits US GAAP and audit work.
Can I take the US CPA exam in Dubai?
Yes. NASBA lists the United Arab Emirates as an international testing location, with an international fee of USD 390 per section on top of domestic fees (NASBA site, Oct 2026).
How much does the US CMA exam cost?
IMA lists a USD 300 entrance fee and USD 545 per exam part for professionals, plus IMA membership of USD 295 (IMA site, Oct 2026). Student rates are lower.
Do I need a licence to file VAT for clients in the UAE?
To represent clients before the Federal Tax Authority you must be a registered tax agent. The FTA requires a relevant degree or tax certification, three years of experience, a VAT or corporate tax diploma, language test results and an AED 3,000 registration fee for individuals (FTA, October 2026).
Are ACCA exemptions available with a Dubai degree?
Some Dubai degrees carry exemptions. For example, UOWD states its Bachelor of Business (Accountancy) is accredited for exemption from 9 ACCA papers. Check ACCA's exemptions calculator for your degree.
Is a short VAT course enough to work as a tax consultant?
A short course teaches the rules but is not a licence. Registered tax agent status requires the FTA's education, experience and registration conditions.
